    • Hysterectomy: A surgery to remove a woman’s uterus or womb

  • Blood transfusions

    • A blood transfusion is the transfer of blood or blood products from a donor to a recipient’s bloodstream

    • This is done as a lifesaving maneuver when blood cells or blood products have been lost due to severe bleeding

Are these treatment options available in developing countries and/or rural areas?

The only realistic options for rural areas (or any area without access to a clinic or hospital) are tamponade options. These require the least amount of “tools,” which could potentially be kept locally, if these materials were affordable enough. The major problem is that these products, tools, or materials would have to be cheap, easy to use, and accessible to all in the event of an emergency. This is extremely challenging. For this reason, the best option would be to identify at risk individuals early so that they could be admitted to a hospital for monitoring and care.
